Founded in 2012 by husband and wife team, Terri and Tim Scheer, Gateway Drum Smokers was born out of a passion for authentic barbecue. The Scheers, who lead the award-winning competition BBQ team Shake ‘n Bake, sought to revolutionize the world of outdoor cooking with a smoker that delivers incredible flavor without the hassle of traditional pit-tending. Their vision brought to life a unique line of drum smokers that quickly became a favorite in the BBQ community.

The Gateway Journey to Excellence

What started as a personal endeavor soon grew into a movement. With the Gateway Drum Smokers’ innovative design, Shake ‘n Bake began earning accolades, and other competitive BBQ teams took notice. The Gateway design proved to be a consistent winner, and soon other teams adopted the smokers to enjoy similar successes. As popularity spread, Gateway Drum Smokers became known as a preferred choice for BBQ competitions, tailgating, and backyard barbecues across the country.

Today, many of these teams have come together to form a community known as The Insane Can Posse. This passionate group of BBQ teams shares a love for Gateway Drum Smokers and includes elite teams such as Gettin’ Basted, Gilly’s BBQ, Iowa Smokey D’s, and many others. The Posse has grown to include hundreds of teams who all appreciate the incredible quality and flavor that Gateway Drum Smokers bring to the table.
